If 2022 was the year that transatlantic travel to Europe roared back, 2023 is all about Asia. So if you're looking across the Pacific Ocean, your timing is impeccable: Some of the best flight deals to Asia we've ever seen could get you there for less.

It may have taken longer than the rest of the world, but nearly all of Asia has reopened to travelers. Trips to Japan are back, getting into Thailand or Vietnam is just like in 2019, and even Hong Kong is open for international tourism again. Whether you want to score a flight for under $700 roundtrip (or much less) or book a lie-flat business class seat using your points, cheap flights to Asia for a trip in 2023 or 2024 are back.

From Tokyo to Thailand to Cambodia, our Thrifty Traveler Premium team keeps finding tons of great fares to visit some of the best destinations on the continent. And Thrifty Traveler Premium+ subscribers have had their pick of the litter when it comes to award deals to get somewhere exciting with their credit card points or airline miles.

Let's take a look around the continent and see what flight prices are looking like for a trip later this year or in 2024.

Cheap Flights to Asia are Back!

Owl of Asia

Japan reopened to fully vaccinated Americans last fall, and our subscribers have been waiting for flight deals to Tokyo like these.
LAX to Tokyo cash fare

Get deals like this in your inbox with Thrifty Traveler Premium!

Your eyes don't deceive you, either. This roundtrip fare isn't on Japanese carriers like Japan Airlines or All Nippon Airways and it's not flying American, Delta, or United, either. It's a swanky flight with Singapore Airlines, the world's #2 airline, for less than $700 roundtrip. It's not unusual for these nonstop flights to cost $1,100 or more.

Anything below $800 roundtrip to Asia is typically a bargain, so we loved sending out these low fares to Bali (DPS) flying Singapore or another five-star airline: Cathay Pacific. If you're looking at a flight to Bali, it's not unusual to see fares as high as $1,500 from many U.S. airports.

How about nearly half the price instead? This deal included fares from New York City (JFK) for just $805 roundtrip and from Los Angeles (LAX) for just $795 roundtrip.

If Bali is on your list, you might have also considered a trip to Thailand. This Bangkok (BKK) flight deal might be the perfect ticket for you: Flying from Los Angeles, San Francisco (SFO), Toronto (YYZ), or Vancouver (YVR), these fares topped out at $886 total – a far cry from the $1,500 or more some travelers are used to seeing to Bangkok.
Thailand flight deal

Plus, this deal included fares in August through the fall and into winter 2024. That's a huge amount of availability, so you could pick your spots in the later half of 2023 and into 2024 for your Thailand adventure.

I'll be honest, here: I'm not sure I could have picked out Cambodia on a map until we unearthed this sweet deal to Phnom Penh (PNH) a few weeks ago.
Cambodia flight deal

Get to Cambodia with this deal, then book a connecting flight to Siem Reap for just $135 and see the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat Temple, pictured above. Our Thrifty Traveler Premium flight deal guru Jon visited the temple a few years ago and said it's more spectacular than you could imagine. Like the rest of Asia from the U.S., flights to Cambodia regularly cost around $1,500, so this half-off deal was a steal.

Speaking of flight deal guru Jon, he's still raving about the Philippines after returning from his honeymoon in February. Days after his return, we dug up this deal to Manila (MNL) with fares roughly 30 to 40% off the usual prices.

Let's dabble in a little bit of extra comfort, shall we? These flights to Asia are long, so it'd be nice to stretch out a little bit more and get some fancier amenities and food on the journey, right? Enter premium economy – namely, Singapore Airlines Premium Economy. Normally, a seat this comfy will run you at least $2,000 roundtrip. Not for Thrifty Traveler Premium members, though.
Singapore Airlines premium economy flight deal

We dug up this sale on Singapore Premium Economy fares from Los Angeles (LAX) to Bengaluru (BLR), Chiang Mai (CNX), Chennai (MAA), Da Nang (DAD), and Mumbai (BOM) – all for less than $1,499. That's what some travelers will pay to get to these places in regular economy. But Singapore Airlines has some of the best Premium Economy seats in the sky, with more legroom, better padding, and the ability to pre-select your meals in advance with Singapore's special “Book the Cook” menu.

Speaking of a great use of points: There's just one nonstop flight from the U.S. to Vietnam, from San Francisco (SFO) to Ho Chi Minh (SGN) on Vietnam Airlines. With no competition, prices on these flights can be exorbitant. Unless you use your SkyMiles, that is…
Delta SkyMiles deal to Vietnam

Just 72,000 SkyMiles and $45 in taxes and fees could get you to Vietnam later this year as efficiently as possible. That's tough to beat.

Finally, for our Thrifty Traveler Premium+ members with United MileagePlus miles, we found this sizzling deal to Tokyo-Haneda (HND), Tokyo-Narita (NRT), and even Japan's foodie capital of Osaka (KIX) for travel this spring – all for just 50,000 miles roundtrip.
United miles flights to Tokyo

Got United miles to burn? Check out some of the best United mileage deals we've found!

As you can see, nearly every airport in the country with United service got in on this deal for just 50,000 miles roundtrip! Plus, you could even transfer Chase points or Bilt Rewards points to your United account to get the miles you needed to book.

Flying from Bismarck (BIS) all the way to Tokyo would cost at least $1,263 roundtrip as of publication. But when you can book for 50,000 United miles instead? You earned those points and miles for a reason.

We'll start again in Japan, where one trend is very clear: If you want to book Japan Airlines (JAL) business class seats to Tokyo, you'd better start earning some American Airlines miles. We've found wide-open opportunities to fly Japan Airlines business class to Tokyo over the last several months – always for two (or more!) passengers.

That's right: Just 60,000 American Airlines miles and $5.60 in taxes and fees for a lie-flat business class trip to Japan. It might be the best way to get to Tokyo.

But Japan doesn't have a monopoly on great business class award deals to Asia. How about a lie-flat seat to Singapore?
Singapore Airlines business class

Late last year, we saw Singapore Airlines change its tune by letting travelers with Air Canada Aeroplan points book its vaunted business class seats. With this award availability, it's an amazing deal: Just 87,500 points each way.

That sure beats the 111,000 miles Singapore itself charges for the exact same flights. Plus, Aeroplan points are easy to earn: They're a Chase transfer partner, Amex transfer partner, Capital One transfer partner, and a Bilt Rewards transfer partner, too.

And finally, we'll go one step further than business class and take a first class ride to Hong Kong (HKG) instead. And Cathay Pacific first class doesn't mess around – this is one of the most luxurious ways to fly to Asia. Soon after relaunching first class flights to the U.S., Cathay opened up some award space for savvy travelers to book a bucket list flight using their American AAdvantage miles.
